LONDON- A distinguished cybersecurity professional, Dr Fene Osakwe, has been recognised for his outstanding contributions to the field of technology at the prestigious African Achievers Awards, held at the UK Parliament’s Palace of Westminster on 10–11 July 2025. Dr Osakwe received the inaugural Technology Impact Award at the 15th African Achievers Awards, acknowledging his achievements in advancing cybersecurity on an international level.

Dr Osakwe, a Nigerian-born technology leader with a global footprint in digital security, became the first recipient in this newly introduced category. The organisers commended his leadership and service in the sector, stating that his dedication has left a “significant impact, not only within your field but across wider society.” Now in its 15th year, the African Achievers Awards seek to honour individuals who are driving meaningful positive change within their industries and communities.

In an interview with PUNCH Diaspora Tales, Dr Osakwe said, “This was the first time there would be a Technology category at the awards, and I became the first winner.” His recognition marks a notable shift in focus towards the growing importance of cybersecurity in an increasingly digital economy.

The awards, hosted annually at the Palace of Westminster across both the House of Commons and House of Lords, have a history of honouring excellence in leadership, business, philanthropy and public service. Dr Osakwe’s achievement stands as a reflection of the crucial role technology professionals now play in national and international security frameworks.

As the digital space continues to evolve, the need for skilled cybersecurity expertise has become a priority for governments and industries alike. Recognition of professionals such as Dr Osakwe not only highlights individual achievement but also underscores the broader importance of securing digital infrastructure in the modern era.

The inclusion of a technology category this year is seen as a timely move, given the UK’s growing emphasis on cyber resilience and technological innovation. Dr Osakwe’s recognition at a venue as symbolic as the Palace of Westminster reinforces the importance of cybersecurity in safeguarding economic and social stability
