Dog Fighting, Drug Ring Busted in Baton Rouge Area

A months-long investigation by the Zachary Police Department has brought to light a disturbing operation involving illegal dog fighting, drug distribution, and money laundering across multiple cities in the Baton Rouge area. What began as quiet surveillance ended in multiple arrests, the seizure of dozens of mistreated animals, and the dismantling of what officials are calling a deeply rooted criminal ring.

Authorities say two families were behind the operation, which spread across several locations in and around Baton Rouge. After two months of investigation, detectives obtained search warrants and moved in. One of the major sites raided was a house on Baker Boulevard in Zachary, which investigators say was used as a hub for breeding, training, and hosting illegal dog fights.

The conditions were grim. According to East Baton Rouge Parish Animal Control, at least 30 dogs were found on the property, many in poor health and used for fighting. Investigators also recovered performance-enhancing substances, including steroids, vitamins, and proteins, along with treadmills and other training equipment.

Following the raid, East Baton Rouge Parish Animal Control euthanized 28 of the more than 30 dogs seized, citing severe health and behavioral concerns. Animal Control officials stated that only two of the dogs remain in custody, with decisions on their potential placement still pending. At this stage, they are not accepting adoption or rescue inquiries until Animal Control finalizes their review. As the investigation is ongoing, a timeline for those decisions has not been shared.

The individuals arrested in connection with the ring have been identified as Terry Wilson, Delvekio Neff, Terry Neff, Daisy Holiday, and Erinn Watson. They face a long list of serious charges, including felony dog fighting, animal cruelty, money laundering, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and drug-related offenses.

Some of the arrests were made at another location on Machost Road in Zachary. Court documents confirm that several suspects are expected to appear in court this Wednesday.

This case has left a mark on the community, stirring both outrage and heartbreak. Officials emphasize the importance of speaking up when abuse or illegal activity is suspected. They also credit the success of the operation to thorough investigative work and cooperation between agencies.

As the legal process continues, the focus now turns to holding those responsible accountable and ensuring that no more animals suffer under similar circumstances.
