Wife of Former NBA Player Danilo Gallinari Recovering After Shark Bite in Puerto Rico

Eleonora Boi, wife of retired National Basketball Association (NBA) player Danilo Gallinari, was bitten by a shark while swimming near the shore of a crowded beach in Puerto Rico, according to a social media post she shared on Friday. Boi, who is pregnant with the couple’s third child, described the incident as the “worst day” of her life but confirmed that both she and her unborn baby are recovering.

In a photo posted from her hospital bed, Boi explained that she had been swimming when the shark attack occurred. “I never thought I could get attacked by a shark, and I was near the shore and on a super crowded beach,” she wrote, per a translated caption. She added that emergency responders acted quickly, and surgery on her injured leg was successful. The injury reportedly involved her thigh.

Boi took a light-hearted tone in parts of her message, thanking Gallinari for his support and joking that the shark would be hearing from her lawyer. Officials in Puerto Rico are currently investigating the incident. Nilda Jiménez, a biologist with the island’s Department of Natural and Environmental Resources, stated that photos of the wound suggest the bite is consistent with a shark, but further analysis is required to confirm the species involved. Medical staff have been asked to provide samples to aid in the investigation.

Gallinari, who has not publicly commented on the incident, played in the NBA from 2008 to 2024, including stints with the New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, and several other teams. The Italian forward averaged 14.9 points and 4.7 rebounds across 777 career games.
