A vehicle drove into a crowd of people on Santa Monica Boulevard in East Hollywood early Saturday, injuring more than 20 individuals, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) reported.

The LAFD confirmed that up to five people were listed in critical condition. A further eight to ten victims were in serious condition, and between ten and fifteen sustained injuries described as fair. All were transported to nearby hospitals for evaluation and treatment.

Records show the incident occurred just after midnight on Santa Monica Boulevard, a major east–west thoroughfare known for its late-night activity. Emergency responders arrived within minutes of the crash report, setting up a triage area at the scene. Medics worked swiftly to assess and prioritise care based on injury severity.

While no further details on the driver or vehicle have been released, LAFD officials noted that the circumstances leading to the collision remain under review. The department has deferred questions regarding intent or contributing factors, such as speed, impairment, or mechanical failure, to the Los Angeles Police Department’s traffic division, which typically handles such investigations.

Santa Monica Boulevard was closed to traffic in both directions for several hours as crews cleared debris and investigators documented the scene. Nearby businesses remained shuttered until the roadway was deemed safe and all victims were moved. Residents in the area reported a heavy emergency presence through the early hours, underscoring the scale of the response.

Authorities have urged anyone with information or video footage of the crash to come forward. No arrests have been announced, and it is not yet clear whether the collision will be treated as an accident or a crime. Investigators are examining surveillance cameras from local businesses and traffic cameras along the boulevard to reconstruct the events leading up to the impact.

The LAFD emphasised that rapid coordination with local hospitals was crucial in ensuring timely care for the injured. The department also reminded the public to remain vigilant and report any concerns to law enforcement.

This remains a developing story, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
