Two 15-year-olds have been taken into custody following a failed carjacking attempt in Northwest Washington, D.C., marking the latest development in an ongoing investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and federal authorities.

The incident occurred early Sunday morning, August 3, 2025, around 3:00 am, when a group of suspects confronted two individuals near a vehicle parked along the 1400 block of Swann Street Northwest. The suspects demanded the victims’ car and proceeded to assault one of them. However, their efforts were interrupted when an MPD patrol car entered the block, prompting the group to flee the scene.

Responding officers quickly pursued and apprehended two suspects, a 15-year-old male and a 15-year-old female, from Hyattsville, Maryland. Authorities confirmed that both juveniles have been charged with unarmed carjacking.

Emergency responders from the D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) treated one of the victims at the scene for injuries sustained during the attack. No additional medical information has been released at this time.

While MPD officers’ swift response led to the arrests, several other individuals involved remain at large. The case has since been turned over to MPD’s specialized Carjacking Taskforce, a joint initiative that includes detectives from the police department and agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Washington Field Office.

Investigators are urging anyone with information related to the attempted carjacking to come forward. The MPD has reiterated its policy advising the public not to approach or engage with suspects but instead contact the police at (202) 727-9099. Tips can also be sent anonymously via text to 50411.

As part of its ongoing efforts to combat violent crime in the District of Columbia, the MPD is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for such offenses.

The attempted carjacking on Swann Street adds to a growing list of similar incidents in the city in recent months. The Carjacking Taskforce continues to monitor patterns and coordinate with federal partners to address the rise in these crimes. Authorities have not disclosed how many suspects remain at large or whether they believe the incident was part of a larger trend involving juvenile offenders.
