Trump Sends U.S. Submarines Amid Russia Tensions

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  President Donald Trump has authorised the deployment of two nuclear-powered U.S. submarines to undisclosed global locations, a clear signal of military readiness in the face of ongoing Russian aggression and intensified nuclear rhetoric from Moscow.

The action follows a shortened ceasefire ultimatum Trump issued to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Initially allowing a 50-day window for Moscow to halt its military operations in Ukraine, Trump reduced the timeframe to just 10 days after repeated Russian missile and drone attacks. That deadline expires on August 8.

Russia’s former president, Dmitry Medvedev, now deputy chairman of the Security Council, dismissed Trump’s ultimatum as a provocation, warning it could lead to broader conflict. In response, Trump authorised the deployment of the submarines, underscoring his firm stance on deterrence and national security.

The U.S. military has not revealed the submarines’ locations, citing operational security. However, the move aligns with Washington’s broader defence posture to deter hostile actions and reassure international partners.

Ukraine has continued its diplomatic push for greater U.S. involvement, calling for secondary sanctions on Russia’s economic allies. Andriy Yermak, chief of staff to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said in a Telegram post that Russia’s wartime economy is weakening and could be further strained by additional sanctions.

“The economy, geared for war, cannot withstand the pressure and is holding on only through the sale of energy resources,” Yermak stated. He referenced proposals from both U.S. lawmakers and Trump that advocate targeting countries still purchasing Russian oil and gas, specifically naming China and India.

The Kremlin’s official reaction has been subdued. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov characterised Trump’s actions as election-related posturing. Nonetheless, Medvedev’s remarks point to ongoing concern within Russian leadership over U.S. military movements and political developments.

Combat operations in Ukraine continue along a front stretching over 600 miles, particularly concentrated in eastern and southern regions. Despite heavy casualties and economic pressure, the Kremlin has shown no indication of backing away from its objectives.

With the August 8 deadline drawing near, political and military observers are watching closely. The deployment of U.S. submarines adds further weight to Trump’s warnings and represents one of the most significant military signals issued by a former U.S. president in recent years.

Whether Russia de-escalates in response remains uncertain, but the message is clear: American deterrence is back on the table.
