A police pursuit in Oakland, California, ended with one suspect in custody after fleeing into a private school campus. The incident, led by the United States Marshals Service (USMS), began with a targeted search for a robbery suspect and concluded with a high-security lockdown at Head-Royce School. Two additional suspects remain on the run.

On Thursday afternoon, the USMS initiated a vehicle pursuit of a man wanted in connection with a robbery. The chase spanned several Oakland neighborhoods before spike strips were deployed to disable the suspect’s vehicle near Lincoln Avenue and Tiffin Road. After the vehicle crashed, three individuals fled on foot. One entered the grounds of Head-Royce School, a prestigious private institution in the Oakland Hills.

Authorities acted swiftly, locking down the school and launching a thorough search of the premises. According to a school spokesperson, the suspect had no affiliation with the institution and was apprehended without incident. No injuries were reported, and all students and staff remained safe during the lockdown.

The other two suspects, including the individual originally sought for robbery, escaped into the surrounding neighborhoods. Officers from multiple agencies established a perimeter and conducted an aerial and ground search using drones and helicopters. Despite their efforts, the suspects had evaded capture by 8:00 p.m., when the search was scaled back.

Tekay Dorsey, a Supervisory Deputy with the USMS, stated that the Thursday operation was not linked to the ongoing Summer Safety Plan. That initiative, launched in partnership with the Oakland Police Department, aims to target violent offenders and execute outstanding state and local felony warrants. The USMS’s Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force, which was involved in the chase, typically handles high-priority fugitives but does not engage in immigration enforcement activities.

Residents in the area have been urged to review any available surveillance footage and report relevant information to the U.S. Marshals tip line at 1-877-WANTED-2.

The incident serves as a reminder of the increasing pressure on law enforcement agencies to contain criminal activity amid rising concerns about public safety. It also underscores the importance of community cooperation in helping authorities locate and apprehend dangerous individuals still at large.
