Special Operations and Counterterror Units Deployed to Protect Ghislaine Maxwell in Texas Prison

Federal officials with the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) have deployed specialized security forces to protect Ghislaine Maxwell, the former associate of Jeffrey Epstein, following reported death threats against her. Maxwell, a French and British socialite, is serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking at the Federal Prison Camp (FPC) in Bryan, Texas.

According to The New York Sun, members of the BOP’s Special Operations Response Team have been stationed around the entrance and perimeter of FPC Bryan to monitor potential threats from outside the facility. A source close to the investigation told the outlet, “There have been death threats received… they are focused on the outside looking in, as opposed to the happenings inside the camp.”

The BOP has also deployed its Counter Terrorism Unit, a team typically tasked with monitoring the communications and activities of inmates designated as terrorist offenders, to address possible internal threats. Both units have been present since Maxwell’s transfer to the Texas facility last week.

In a statement, a BOP spokesperson declined to comment on specific security measures, saying, “We take seriously our duty to protect the individuals entrusted in our custody, as well as maintaining the safety of our employees and the community.” The bureau typically houses high-profile inmates at maximum-security facilities such as the United States Penitentiary Administrative Maximum Facility (ADX) in Colorado. However, it is unusual for such heightened security measures to be deployed at a minimum-security prison camp.

Before Maxwell’s arrival, FPC Bryan’s most notable inmates included former Real Housewives of Salt Lake City cast member Jen Shah and Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes. Maxwell was moved from Tallahassee, Florida, after reportedly agreeing to assist the government in ongoing investigations into Epstein’s sex-trafficking network.

The transfer has raised concerns among Epstein’s victims. Annie Farmer, one of the survivors, told CNN, “With this prison transfer, I think it again feels like she is getting preferential treatment. That sounds like something that is unprecedented, and it’s really worrying to us about what might be coming next.”

Virginia Giuffre, another survivor whose allegations were central to public awareness of the Epstein case, previously told Australian media that she was instructed to have sexual contact with Epstein while Maxwell was present and participating.

Maxwell’s case continues to draw intense public scrutiny, with renewed attention to her role in Epstein’s crimes and the security measures surrounding her incarceration. Authorities have not disclosed the nature or origin of the alleged threats but have confirmed that both external and internal monitoring will remain in place for the foreseeable future.
