Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Requests $50 Million Bond While Awaiting Sentencing

Sean “Diddy” Combs is asking a federal judge to release him on a $50 million bond as he awaits sentencing for his conviction on prostitution-related charges. The 55-year-old music mogul was found guilty earlier this month on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, which carry a potential prison sentence of up to ten years.

Combs’s legal team argues that his continued detention at the Metropolitan Detention Centre (MDC) in Brooklyn is both unwarranted and unsafe. His attorney, Marc Agnifilo, stated in a court filing that individuals convicted of similar offences are typically allowed to remain free on bond until sentencing. “Sean Combs should not be in jail for this conduct,” Agnifilo wrote. “He may be the only person currently in a United States jail for being any sort of John, and certainly the only person in jail for hiring adult male escorts for himself and his girlfriend.”

The charges against Combs stem from allegations that he paid for and arranged transportation for sex workers across state lines. While he was cleared of more serious accusations, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, the two remaining convictions were enough to keep him in federal custody.

Prosecutors have consistently opposed his release, arguing that Combs poses a flight risk and could potentially obstruct justice if freed. Their concerns were echoed by U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian, who previously denied a bond request immediately after the July 2 acquittal on the more severe charges. The judge noted that Combs had not demonstrated a lack of danger to the community by clear and convincing evidence.

Combs, once one of the most influential figures in the entertainment industry, is now facing the prospect of becoming a long-term inmate at MDC Brooklyn. The facility, known for housing high-profile detainees, has previously held the likes of R. Kelly, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Sam Bankman-Fried. Conditions at the jail have come under repeated scrutiny over the years for overcrowding and alleged mistreatment of inmates.

As Combs awaits his sentencing date, legal observers say the outcome of his bond request could set a precedent for how non-violent but high-profile federal offenders are treated in the pre-sentencing phase. For now, he remains behind bars, with no ruling yet on whether his request for release will be granted.
