A registered sex offender is back in custody after allegedly sniffing a woman’s buttocks inside a department store in California, according to police.

Burbank officers arrested 38-year-old Calese Carron Crowder after receiving reports of a man acting suspiciously in the women’s section at Nordstrom Rack in the Burbank Empire Center. By the time law enforcement arrived at the scene, the individual had already fled.

After searching the surrounding shopping complex, officers located Crowder inside a nearby Walmart. Investigators say surveillance footage from Nordstrom Rack showed Crowder crouching behind a woman and appearing to sniff her buttocks. He was charged with one count of loitering with the intent to commit a crime.

Crowder, who is a registered sex offender and was on parole, has a record of previous arrests related to lewd conduct dating back to 2021, police said.

Pattern of Behavior

This is not the first time Crowder has been scrutinized for similar behavior. Michaela Witter, who identified herself as one of Crowder’s past victims, said she had previously recorded him allegedly sniffing her while she was browsing at a Barnes & Noble in Burbank. She later shared the video on TikTok.

“I feel like the justice system is just neglecting everything,” Witter said in her post. “It’s crazy to think that someone like this, who’s constantly stalking and violating these people, is allowed to be out and about.”

The incident has reignited concerns about public safety and the supervision of individuals with known criminal histories. Law enforcement officials emphasized that Crowder’s actions, captured clearly on security footage, fit a recurring pattern that should not be ignored.

The Burbank Police Department stated that Crowder’s current charge stems from his alleged actions at the Nordstrom Rack, but his history will likely be considered as the case progresses. He remains in custody on $100,000 bail and is expected to appear in court this Friday.

Many in the local community are raising questions about how closely parolees with sex offense records are being monitored. Critics argue that individuals with repeat offenses pose a continued threat to the public and should face stricter oversight.

As the legal process unfolds, residents and potential victims are calling for more accountability and stronger preventive measures to stop such incidents from happening again.
