Authorities in Arkansas are actively searching for a suspect after a man and woman were discovered dead on a trail at Devil’s Den State Park over the weekend. State police are treating the case as a possible double homicide, as investigators work to identify the person responsible.

Officers from the Arkansas State Police Department were called to the scene around 2:40 p.m. Saturday, where they found the bodies of a 43-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman along one of the park’s walking trails. The victims’ identities have not yet been publicly released, pending notification of next of kin.

In a statement, state police confirmed that both bodies were transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory. Medical examiners there will determine the exact cause of death, which has not yet been disclosed.

A police bulletin described the suspect. According to officials, the individual is believed to be a white male, last seen wearing dark shorts, a dark tank top, and gloves typically used for weightlifting. Witnesses reported seeing him drive away from the park in a black four-door sedan.

Investigators noted that the vehicle may be a Mazda, and its license plate appeared to be obscured with electrical or duct tape. The car was reportedly headed toward the park’s exit and may have been traveling on either State Highway 170 or State Highway 220 following the incident.

No arrests have been made so far, but police are encouraging anyone with information to come forward. The Arkansas State Police is leading the investigation, with assistance from local law enforcement and park rangers.

In a public statement posted on social media, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders addressed the situation and emphasized her administration’s support for the ongoing investigation. “We are praying for the family and friends of the victims, and know that law enforcement will not rest until the perpetrator is brought to justice,” she wrote.

Devil’s Den State Park, located in northwest Arkansas, is a popular destination for hiking and camping. The area is known for its scenic trails and rugged terrain, which can make searches and investigations more challenging for authorities.

Although officials have not indicated whether the suspect or victims were known to each other, police say there is no immediate threat to the public. However, out of caution, they advise park visitors to remain alert and report suspicious activity.

The incident has shocked the surrounding community and prompted concerns over park safety. Local residents and park-goers expressed sympathy for the victims’ families and called for justice.

No further details have been released regarding the motive or any potential evidence found at the scene. The Arkansas State Police is expected to provide updates as the investigation progresses.

Anyone who may have been in the area on Saturday or who saw a vehicle matching the suspect’s description is urged to contact state police immediately.
