Netanyahu Nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize

During a high-profile White House dinner on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made headlines by officially nominating United States President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. Netanyahu praised Trump’s efforts in fostering peace and security in volatile regions and presented him with the letter he submitted to the Nobel Prize Committee.

“He’s forging peace as we speak, in one country, in one region after the other,” Netanyahu said. “It’s well deserved. You should get it.” His remarks came as both leaders discussed regional stability and ongoing diplomatic efforts, including a proposed 60-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Trump stated that Israel had already accepted the deal and noted that Hamas had submitted a “positive response” to international mediators.

The event also served as a platform for Trump to discuss other pressing global issues. Addressing the conflict in Ukraine, Trump confirmed plans to send additional defensive weapons, citing the country’s urgent need to protect itself amid continued attacks. “They’re getting hit very hard. We have to help them defend themselves,” he said during the dinner.

Earlier in the day, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed concerns about a recent pause in U.S. military aid to Ukraine. She explained that the delay resulted from a standard review ordered by the Secretary of Defense to ensure that all outgoing support aligns with U.S. strategic interests. “It’s a pause to ensure everything we send is in the best interest of our military and our men and women in uniform,” Leavitt clarified.

On the trade front, Trump gave mixed messages about his administration’s ongoing tariff efforts. He declared that the U.S. was done negotiating and had started sending tariff letters to various countries. “We’re telling them how much they have to pay,” Trump said, though he added the August 1 deadline for these tariffs was “firm but not 100% firm.” When pressed further, he called the letters “more or less final offers,” suggesting that some room for negotiation still exists.

So far, the Trump administration has finalized a trade deal with Vietnam and framework agreements with China and the United Kingdom. As the administration juggles diplomacy, trade, and defense policy, the evening’s dinner highlighted both its ambitions and the challenges ahead.
