A tragic double homicide in Henry County has left the community shaken after a man was arrested following the deaths of his wife and another man, officials say.

On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, deputies from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call shortly before 1 p.m. about a man shot and lying in the road outside a residence on 267 Meeks Road in Ridgeway. Upon arrival, officers discovered William Leroy Morey, 68, deceased with multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities later found Mandy Coleman, 22, inside the home, also dead from an apparent single gunshot wound.

Joshua Corbett Coleman, Mandy’s husband, was quickly identified as the suspect. He was located and arrested following a traffic stop later that afternoon while accompanied by two young children, who lived in the home with Mandy Coleman. Deputies confirmed the children were unharmed. At the time of his arrest, Coleman was found to be in possession of a handgun and an AR-15 rifle, according to the sheriff’s office.

Court documents obtained by WDBJ7 provide a disturbing account of the events. After his arrest, Coleman reportedly confessed to killing both his wife and Morey. The complaint states that a heated argument between Joshua and Mandy Coleman led him to accuse her of infidelity. Coleman admitted to retrieving a gun from his room and shooting Mandy in the head.

Following the shooting, Coleman took the children and left their home. According to the complaint, knowing he would be arrested, he sought out Morey with the intention of killing him as well. Unable to locate Morey at his residence, Coleman returned to the Meeks Road property, found Morey, and fatally shot him.

Sheriff Wayne Davis confirmed Morey was not related to the Colemans but did not disclose the nature of the relationship between Morey and Mandy Coleman.

A neighbor living near the crime scene told WDBJ7 that he was the first to call 911 after hearing gunshots. “I was outside taking a break from mowing when I saw two vehicles pull up, and less than a minute later, I heard multiple shots ring out,” he said. Initially, the neighbor thought the shots were directed at an animal, but soon realized the severity after discovering Morey’s body outside.

Coleman is currently being held at the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond. He faces multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, one count of shooting from an occupied vehicle, and two counts of child abuse and neglect.

Sheriff Davis expressed the gravity of the situation and praised law enforcement efforts. “This is a heartbreaking and tragic situation that has deeply affected two families and our entire community. Our hearts go out to the loved ones of the victims during this incredibly difficult time. I want to commend our deputies and our partner agencies for their swift and coordinated response, which led to the safe recovery of the children and the apprehension of the suspect. We are committed to seeking justice for the victims and protecting the innocent.”

Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 276-638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 63-CRIME (632-7463).
