Iran Labels United States as Top Human Rights Violator

A senior Iranian Judiciary official has strongly condemned the United States, calling it the world’s most serious violator of human rights and the main force behind the recent 12-day war waged against Iran.

Speaking at the 10th International Conference on American Human Rights held in Tehran, Nasser Seraj, Secretary-General of the Human Rights Headquarters, accused Washington of using human rights as a political tool rather than respecting them as universal values.

Seraj emphasized that the United States routinely exploits the language of human rights to justify its policies and maintain global dominance. “American human rights is nothing but a political tool wielded to safeguard its interests and power, with no genuine commitment to upholding the true rights of human beings,” he declared.

He also detailed how the United States played a central role in the conflict that began last month, describing the war as an act of coordinated aggression. According to Seraj, Israel started the hostilities on June 13 by attacking Iranian nuclear and military sites. Just over a week later, on June 22, U.S. forces joined the campaign by launching airstrikes on Iran’s key nuclear facilities in Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz.

The military escalation came days before scheduled diplomatic talks between Iran and the United States over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program. Seraj said the timing demonstrated that Washington was not interested in dialogue but in applying pressure through force.

The fighting, which ended with a ceasefire on June 24, left a trail of civilian casualties. Women, children, and older adults were among those killed and injured, Seraj noted. He condemned these losses as clear examples of human rights violations that the United States and its allies must be held accountable for.

During the conflict, Iran’s High Council for Human Rights submitted several reports to international organizations to document what it described as systematic abuses. Seraj argued that despite these efforts, Western governments and institutions often turn a blind eye when the United States or its partners commit such violations.

He also cited remarks by Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Revolution. He has long maintained that Washington’s human rights claims are insincere and serve only political and economic objectives.

Seraj concluded by calling on independent nations and international bodies to stand up against what he sees as the hypocrisy of American foreign policy. He urged the global community to recognize the suffering caused by wars of aggression and to hold the United States accountable for the harm inflicted on innocent civilians.
