Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath, passed away on July 22, 2025, at age 76, surrounded by family. His death certificate, obtained by The Sun, lists the causes of death as acute myocardial infarction, out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, coronary artery disease, and Parkinson’s disease with autonomic dysfunction. An acute myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, occurs when blood flow to the heart is blocked, causing tissue damage. Osbourne had been battling Parkinson’s since his diagnosis in 2019, which compounded his health struggles in recent years.

The rock icon was laid to rest in a private funeral at his 250-acre Buckinghamshire estate near Gerrards Cross, attended by family and notable figures, including Marilyn Manson and Osbourne’s longtime guitarist Zakk Wylde. His widow, Sharon Osbourne, 72, and their children, Aimee, Kelly, and Jack, were joined by Jessica and Louis, his children from his first marriage to Thelma Riley. The ceremony followed a public outpouring of grief, with thousands of fans leaving flowers, wreaths, and tributes at the Black Sabbath Bench on Broad Street in Birmingham, Osbourne’s hometown.

Just weeks before his death, Osbourne performed his final concert on July 5 at Villa Park in Birmingham, reuniting with original Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward for the first time since 2005. The “Back to the Beginning” event drew over 42,000 fans and featured performances by Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, and others. Seated on a throne due to his Parkinson’s-related mobility issues, Osbourne told the crowd, “You’ve no idea how I feel, thank you from the bottom of my heart.” The concert raised significant funds for charities, including Birmingham Children’s Hospital and The Cure Parkinson’s Trust.

Following his passing, tributes flooded in from fans and musicians worldwide. Birmingham City Council collected tributes from the Black Sabbath Bench, preserving them for the Osbourne family. The council stated the items would be stored with care and handed over as a “lasting reminder of the public’s affection.” The Osbourne family expressed gratitude, noting, “These expressions of remembrance reflect the profound impact that Ozzy had on the city and its people, as well as fans from around the world, BIRMINGHAM FOREVER!” Kelly Osbourne shared an emotional Instagram post, saying, “Grief is a strange thing, it sneaks up on you in waves, but knowing my family are not alone in our pain makes a difference.”

Osbourne’s family announced his death with a statement: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love.” Known as the “Prince of Darkness,” Osbourne co-founded Black Sabbath in 1968, shaping heavy metal with hits like “Paranoid” and “Iron Man.” His solo career, launched after his 1979 dismissal from the band due to substance abuse, produced classics like “Crazy Train.” Osbourne’s larger-than-life persona extended to reality TV fame with “The Osbournes,” showcasing his role as a family man despite his tumultuous history.
