Friends Say American Idol Exec, Husband Beefed Up Security Before Double Homicide in Encino

Friends of Robin Kaye, a longtime “American Idol” executive, and her husband, music producer Thomas Deluca, say the couple had taken extra security measures after a recent break-in attempt, just weeks before they were found murdered in their Encino home.

The couple, described as warm, creative, and deeply devoted to each other, had reportedly grown increasingly concerned about their safety. A family friend told Fox News Digital that the two had installed surveillance cameras and added security spikes to the property’s fence after a late-night intrusion was thwarted by their barking dog.

“They were trying to protect themselves,” said the friend, who spoke on condition of anonymity. “They thought they had scared [the intruders] off.”

Kaye, 49, and Deluca, 52, were discovered dead in their home earlier this week in what police are investigating as a double homicide. No arrests have been made, and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has not publicly identified any suspects or released a possible motive.

The killings have shaken the upscale San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Encino, where the couple had moved in 2023 in search of peace and safety. The home they purchased previously belonged to late rapper Juice WRLD and had a history of rental turnover before Kaye and Deluca made it their permanent residence.

Kaye was widely respected in the television industry for her behind-the-scenes work on “American Idol,” helping shape one of America’s most successful reality competitions. Deluca was an established songwriter and producer with a long career in the music business.

Friends remembered the couple as kind-hearted and full of life. “They were two of the nicest people you’ll ever meet,” the friend said. “They traveled a lot, loved their pets, and even had a pet turtle they brought with them wherever they moved.”

Their deaths come amid growing concern over rising property crimes in traditionally quiet Los Angeles neighborhoods. Encino, once considered a suburban refuge for entertainment professionals, has seen a string of high-profile burglaries in recent months. The deaths of Kaye and Deluca have reignited debate over public safety, even in affluent, well-secured areas.

The LAPD confirmed that the case is being handled with urgency but declined to comment further, citing the ongoing investigation.

As tributes pour in from colleagues, friends, and fans, many in the community are left grappling with the brutal loss, and questioning what more can be done to protect residents from escalating violence.
