Florida School District Adopts Xtract One Tech

Volusia County Schools in Florida will begin implementing Xtract One Technologies’ Gateway security system in 2025 to strengthen campus safety across the district’s high schools.

The move comes in partnership with systems integrator CK2 Technologies, with a phased rollout scheduled starting in high schools next year and expanding further in 2026.

Xtract One Gateway is a security screening system designed to detect potential weapons while maintaining efficient entry flow for students and staff. The technology uses configurable bi-directional scanning and proprietary sensors to differentiate between harmless items, such as laptops, notebooks, and binders, and potential threats.

By automating threat detection at entry points, the system aims to reduce the need for manual bag checks or secondary screenings, which can delay school entry.

“Volusia County Schools’ decision to deploy advanced security screening technology is a testament to the increasing demand for heightened security solutions for high-throughput learning environments,” said Peter Evans, CEO of Xtract One Technologies.

Dr. Carmen Balgobin, Superintendent of Volusia County Schools, added that the district’s priority is to ensure safety without disrupting the learning environment. “With this innovative solution, we can screen for prohibited items quickly without delaying student entry times or pulling students aside,” she said.

The initiative reflects growing interest among school districts in adopting non-invasive, high-efficiency security measures to safeguard educational campuses.
