FBI Sends 120 Agents to Washington, D.C. as President Trump Orders Crime Crackdown

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has deployed approximately 120 agents to overnight patrols in Washington, D.C., to assist local law enforcement in tackling violent crime and carjackings. The move follows President Donald J. Trump’s directive for an intensified federal presence in the nation’s capital, aimed at improving public safety and restoring order.

The deployment includes agents from the FBI’s Washington Field Office and additional personnel from other cities, including Philadelphia. While many of these agents specialize in areas such as counterintelligence and public corruption and typically do not conduct traffic stops, they will support other law enforcement officers during these operations.

President Trump likened the initiative to his administration’s past border enforcement measures, stating on his Truth Social platform that he intends to “clear out the city’s homeless population” and take swift action against crime. “Be prepared! There will be no ‘MR. NICE GUY.’ We want our Capital BACK,” he wrote.

In addition to the FBI, the United States Secret Service and its Uniformed Division, as well as the U.S. Park Police, will participate in patrols. Federal agencies have been directed to increase their visibility and presence on D.C. streets.

This surge in federal enforcement follows the President’s recent call for more juveniles to be tried in the adult justice system for certain offenses. The federal government has unique authority over Washington, D.C., due to its status as a federal district. Under the Home Rule Act of 1973, the city elects its mayor and council, but Congress retains ultimate control over its governance.

The FBI confirmed in a statement that agents from its Washington Field Office “continue to participate in the increased federal law enforcement presence in D.C., which includes assisting our law enforcement partners.”

President Trump has repeatedly pointed to high-profile crimes in the District, including a recent attempted carjacking that injured a former U.S. Doge Service employee. D.C. police arrested two Maryland teenagers in connection with the incident. “I’m going to make our Capital safer and more beautiful than it ever was before,” the President said, adding that changes would come quickly.

The President is scheduled to hold a White House press conference at 10 a.m. Monday to address the city’s crime, cleanliness, and overall condition. “The Mayor of D.C., Muriel Bowser, is a good person who has tried, but she has been given many chances, and the Crime Numbers get worse, and the City only gets dirtier and less attractive,” he wrote in another Truth Social post.

Mayor Bowser has disputed the President’s characterization, pointing to data showing a decline in violent crime. Speaking on MSNBC, she defended the city’s progress and challenged the federal assessment of local conditions.
