Conor McGregor Calls for BKFC Rematch After Fight Ends in Bloody Controversy

Conor McGregor is calling for a rematch after a gruesome injury brought a sudden and controversial end to the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) interim flyweight title fight on Saturday night.

The bout between Andrew Strode and Gee Perez was supposed to decide who would go on to challenge current champion John Dodson. Instead, it was marred by confusion after Perez suffered a severe ear injury that forced the ringside doctor to stop the fight. Initially ruled a no-contest, the decision was later reversed, declaring Strode the winner and new interim champion. The outcome has since stirred heated debate throughout the fight world.

Strode began gaining momentum in the second round and landed a punch that split Perez’s left ear open. The injury turned gruesome quickly, and during the break before round three, it became clear the damage was severe. Part of Perez’s earlobe was left dangling, and the ringside physician advised an immediate stoppage, making it one of the most jarring injuries in BKFC history.

Despite the injury coming from a legal strike, the fight was initially ruled a no-contest, leaving fans and fighters alike scratching their heads. Among those watching was BKFC co-owner and former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor. From his home, McGregor shared an image of Perez’s torn ear on Instagram and simply captioned it: “Unlucky.”

Official Reversal

McGregor’s reaction didn’t end with disappointment. He later called for a rematch between Strode and Perez, expressing frustration with how the situation was handled. His post quickly sparked discussion online, with many questioning why Strode wasn’t given the win immediately, as is standard when a legal blow results in a stoppage.

BKFC President David Feldman addressed the incident at a post-fight press conference, stating he planned to speak with the Florida State Athletic Commission (FSAC) about the decision. Feldman emphasized that Strode had done nothing wrong and that the result didn’t reflect what actually happened inside the ring.

On Sunday evening, the FSAC released an update, confirming it had reviewed the footage and reconsidered the initial call. “After further review, the Florida State Athletic Commission has overturned the no contest in the Strode vs. Perez bout, and has awarded the win and Interim Flyweight Title to Andrew Strode.” BKFC posted on social media.

That decision cements Strode’s path to a title shot against Dodson, but it’s unclear whether McGregor’s influence might delay that bout in favor of a rematch. As one of the most vocal sports figures and now a stakeholder in BKFC, McGregor’s voice carries weight, and his demand may shift how the promotion handles future title fights.

Strode may hold the belt now, but the controversy surrounding his win ensures this story isn’t over yet. Whether Perez gets another shot or moves down the rankings, fans can expect the BKFC spotlight to stay right where it is, stirring the pot with an Irishman at its center.
