Chicago Sky Routed by Storm in 38-Point Defeat at Home

The Chicago Sky endured a punishing 95-57 loss at home to the Seattle Storm on Thursday night, marking their fourth straight defeat and continuing a troubling run since the 2025 Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) All-Star break. Missing star forward Angel Reese due to a lingering back issue, the Sky struggled to find rhythm, consistency, or competitiveness on either end of the floor.

The blowout, which unfolded at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, followed a similarly tough loss earlier in the week to the Minnesota Lynx. With the defeat, the Sky now fall to 7-17 on the season. Seattle, meanwhile, showcased discipline, control, and sharp execution, shooting 53.6 percent from the field and converting nine of 20 shots from beyond the arc. In contrast, Chicago’s offense fell flat, managing just 33.9 percent from the field.

Turnovers proved costly. Chicago gave up the ball 20 times, which the Storm quickly converted into 26 points. Seattle, on the other hand, kept its mistakes to a minimum, committing just 11 turnovers and allowing only eight points in return. The disparity in ball control highlighted a deeper issue of execution and preparedness within the Sky’s current roster.

In a post-game interview with reporter Karli Bell, Sky guard Rachel Banham was blunt in her assessment of the team’s performance. “It’s felt gross,” she said. “It’s probably how you guys look at it. We’re just not consistent. It just feels gross. This is gross basketball, and we know that.”

The absence of Angel Reese was especially felt. Reese, who averages a double-double of 13.8 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, has become a key figure in the Sky’s lineup. Her physical presence, rebounding strength, and court leadership were sorely missed against the Storm’s aggressive frontcourt. The injury that removed her from the game against Minnesota continued to sideline her Thursday, and her return remains uncertain.

While the Sky’s recent performances have disappointed fans, the team’s underlying potential has been clear in moments throughout the season. That potential, however, will need to be quickly rediscovered if Chicago wants to reverse its trajectory. With games stacking up and playoff hopes slipping, the pressure is on to regroup and respond.

As it stands, the Chicago Sky must confront its inconsistencies head-on. Accountability, healthy leadership, and tighter fundamentals are essential to recovering from a post-All-Star slump that now threatens to define their season.
