Burlington Police Seeking Suspect in Two Early Morning Break-Ins

Authorities in Burlington, Vermont, are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man believed to be responsible for two recent break-in attempts at the same residence on North Union Street. The incidents occurred within a week of each other, and police say the suspect has yet to be located.

The most recent break-in attempt happened around 3:30 am on August 1, when a man was reportedly seen trying to enter the same home he had targeted previously. According to the Burlington Police Department (BPD), the suspect began to open the door but fled as soon as he noticed the resident watching him from inside.

This incident follows a prior burglary at the same address during the early morning hours of July 26. Officers say the intruder, described as a Black male dressed in gray clothing and wearing a face covering,  fled the scene before police could arrive.

Despite the time that has passed since the first break-in, BPD only recently released information about the incidents to the public. The department is now urging residents across the Queen City to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.

BPD continues investigating both incidents and believes the same individual may be behind them. The department encourages anyone who may recognize the suspect or have information related to the case to come forward.

As the investigation progresses, police remind the public to double-check that doors and windows are secured, avoid leaving valuables in plain view, and consider installing security cameras. As they say, these steps could help deter potential break-ins and assist officers in identifying suspects.

No injuries were reported in either incident, and the suspect apparently left both scenes without gaining full entry. However, the back-to-back nature of the incidents and the fact that the same home was targeted twice in less than a week have raised concerns among local residents.

The Burlington Police Department has not released any additional surveillance footage or suspect details beyond the initial description. They continue to follow leads and hope that the suspect can be identified and taken into custody with public assistance.
