A young IT technician who initially assisted deputies in the investigation of a missing real estate executive has now been charged with the man’s brutal killing and concealment of his body in a remote desert cave.

Authorities in California arrested 21-year-old Audrik Matevosian on suspicion of murdering 75-year-old Bob Boyajian, a well-respected real estate professional, just days after Boyajian was reported missing from his home in Bass Lake, Madera County. The Madera County Sheriff’s Office revealed Thursday that Matevosian not only helped officers access the victim’s home security system during the early stages of the missing persons case but is now the prime suspect in his death.

The case began on July 14 when deputies were called to Boyajian’s residence for a welfare check after he failed to attend a scheduled work meeting. While the victim’s vehicle was still parked at the home, Boyajian was nowhere to be found. His phone, wallet, and even bedding were missing, signs that immediately raised concern among deputies on the scene.

“It was an unusual observation that added to those growing concerns,” Sheriff Tyson Pogue said at a press conference. “At that point, there were no clear signs of foul play, but the totality of the circumstances seemed very out of character for Mr. Boyajian.”

In an attempt to uncover clues, investigators turned to Boyajian’s home surveillance system. To access it, they contacted Matevosian, a trusted family friend and the technician who had installed the cameras. The young man offered to help remotely, guiding deputies through app installations and sharing login details. However, deputies were unable to access the system, and Matevosian claimed it was offline. When asked about the digital video recorder, he pointed them to a specific location in the closet. But the device had been removed entirely.

Further suspicions were raised when ATM surveillance footage captured a young man attempting to withdraw large amounts of money from Boyajian’s bank account. Tips from the public quickly identified the suspect as Matevosian, the same individual who had been cooperating with investigators.

Detectives soon uncovered further damning evidence suggesting premeditation. According to the sheriff’s office, Matevosian had purchased a body bag online and rented a vehicle in the days leading up to the crime. Following his arrest, he confessed to the murder and led authorities to Boyajian’s hidden burial site in a desolate part of San Bernardino County, located in the Mojave Desert.

The accused is now being held without bail. Charges include first-degree murder with special circumstances and grand theft.

“This arrest represents our commitment to protecting this community, no matter how far the investigation must go,” Sheriff Pogue said, commending the tireless work of the department’s detectives. “Our detectives worked relentlessly to bring justice for Mr. Boyajian and his loved ones.”

As the case proceeds, Matevosian’s shocking betrayal, first presenting himself as a helpful tech expert, only to be revealed as the alleged killer, has left the community stunned and searching for answers.
