Crash Sparks Fire, Explosion at Herriman Strip Mall

Herriman, Utah — A quiet Saturday night in the Salt Lake City suburb of Herriman took a terrifying turn when a vehicle slammed into a strip mall, triggering a powerful explosion that sent flames and debris high into the sky.

The incident occurred late Saturday evening when, according to police, a vehicle crashed into a business located in the strip mall. The impact sparked a fire that quickly escalated, resulting in a massive explosion. The force of the blast was so strong that it launched the building’s roof into the air and caused damage to the surrounding area.

Several people were reportedly injured in the explosion and the subsequent fire. While the extent of the injuries has not been publicly confirmed, emergency services were quick to respond and provide medical aid. Herriman Police Department is working closely with the Unified Fire Authority and Riverton Police Department in managing the aftermath and investigating the cause.

Residents nearby were forced to evacuate as a precaution due to a reported gas leak stemming from the incident. The evacuation order was extended to those within a one-mile radius of the explosion site, including residents on Terra Cruz Lane and Parasol Lane. Authorities urged everyone in that zone to leave their homes and move to a safe location while emergency crews worked to secure the area.

“Residents outside of that immediate area do not need to evacuate at this time but should remain ready to evacuate if necessary,” Herriman Police said in a public statement on social media.

The evacuation order was lifted just after 1 a.m. local time, once officials determined the area was safe and the gas leak no longer posed a threat.

Dramatic footage of the explosion began circulating online shortly after the incident, showing flames engulfing a portion of the strip mall where popular food chains like Jimmy John’s and Domino’s Pizza are located. In one video, the fiery roof can be seen bursting into the air, illuminating the night sky and sending bystanders into shock.

As of now, 13400 South remains closed in both directions while officials continue to investigate the scene and assess structural damage. Authorities have not released further details on the driver of the vehicle or the exact cause of the crash.

The community is left shaken, but many are grateful that emergency responders acted swiftly to prevent further harm. For now, Herriman residents are urged to stay informed and cooperate with any ongoing public safety measures as the investigation unfolds.
