New surveillance footage and crime scene photos related to the murders of four University of Idaho students have been released by the Moscow Police Department, providing the public with a detailed view of the off-campus apartment where the tragedy occurred.

The images come from a public records request and include nearly 200 blurred and redacted photos from inside the home at 1122 King Road. The apartment was the site of the murders of Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20, on November 13, 2022.

Among the images, many show everyday items typical of a college residence, such as red plastic cups, empty beer cans, and scattered clothing. However, several photos also reveal the grim aftermath of the crime, including blood stains on the hardwood floors, bedding, and walls.

One photo features a sliding glass door, believed by police to be the point of entry used by the suspect. A neighbor’s security camera captured footage of a white Hyundai Elantra driving slowly through the neighborhood before speeding away; investigators identified this vehicle as belonging to Bryan Kohberger, the man charged with the murders.

Kohberger, a former Ph.D. candidate at Washington State University, was arrested on December 30, 2022, at his parents’ home in Pennsylvania following an extensive investigation. Police released an image showing Kohberger in handcuffs, dressed in a hoodie and sweatpants, accompanied by an officer in camouflage.

Last month, Kohberger pleaded guilty to all four murders and was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment. He is currently held in solitary confinement at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution.

The release of these photos comes nearly three years after the killings and offers the public a clearer understanding of the crime scene, which has since been demolished.

The murders drew significant public attention, with initial frustration expressed over the slow progress in public disclosures by law enforcement during the investigation.

The Moscow Police Department continues to cooperate with media outlets and provide transparency in the case while respecting the privacy of the victims’ families.
