NEW CASTLE, Ind. – A Henry County man has been charged with multiple serious drug offenses after a traffic stop uncovered significant amounts of illegal substances, including methamphetamine and cocaine.

Steven Dale Conrad, 41, of Springport, was charged on August 6 in Henry Circuit Court 2 with ten criminal counts. These include four counts of dealing controlled substances, possession of those drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful carrying of a handgun, and unlawful possession of prescription medication without a prescription.

Conrad is currently held at the Henry County Jail under a surety bond of $308,000 and a cash bond of $26,800, reflecting the severity of the charges he faces.

According to an affidavit filed by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped Conrad’s Ford F-150 pickup truck on New York Avenue on August 4. The stop was initiated after a deputy observed the vehicle weaving while traveling along Memorial Drive, raising concerns about potentially impaired or reckless driving.

During the subsequent search of the vehicle, deputies reportedly discovered multiple plastic bags containing approximately 63 grams of methamphetamine and 13 grams of cocaine. In addition, controlled substances such as Xanax, a prescription medication classified as a legend drug, were found without valid prescriptions. Marijuana and marijuana-related products, including edibles, were also seized.

The charges of dealing methamphetamine and cocaine are particularly serious. Two of the dealing counts are Level 2 felonies, carrying maximum prison sentences of up to 30 years. Another dealing charge is classified as a Level 3 felony, which carries a maximum sentence of 16 years in prison. The remaining charges include additional drug possession and paraphernalia offenses, as well as firearm-related violations.

Conrad, who has a prior criminal history that includes convictions for auto theft, burglary, possession of cocaine or narcotics, and possession of controlled substances, was formerly a resident of Indianapolis before relocating to Springport.

Local law enforcement officials emphasize that drug trafficking remains a significant concern in Henry County and surrounding areas. The seizure of these substances and subsequent charges highlight ongoing efforts by deputies to disrupt illegal drug distribution networks.

The sheriff’s office encourages residents to report suspicious activity and supports continued cooperation between law enforcement agencies to reduce drug-related crime in the region.

The case is pending further court proceedings, and Conrad remains in custody awaiting trial. Prosecutors are expected to pursue the charges vigorously given the quantities of drugs involved and Conrad’s criminal record.
