One Dead in Late-Night Central Topeka Shooting, Police Launch Homicide Investigation

A deadly shooting in Central Topeka late Wednesday night has prompted a homicide investigation, marking the city’s 14th such case of 2025.

The Topeka Police Department (TPD) responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 11 pm. on August 6 in the 100 block of Northwest Kendall Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered one individual suffering from life-threatening injuries. Medical personnel responded immediately but ultimately pronounced the person dead at the scene.

While the identity of the victim has not been released, the death has officially been classified as a homicide. Authorities have yet to share details on any suspects or motives behind the incident.

Local news outlet 13 News was present during the police response and reported that crime scene tape had been placed around a residence in the area. Officers remained on site throughout the night as the investigation unfolded.
