Anduril Opens Solid Rocket Motor Production Facility in Mississippi

Anduril Industries has officially opened a large-scale manufacturing facility in McHenry, Mississippi, becoming one of only three domestic suppliers of solid rocket motors (SRMs) in the United States. This move breaks a long-standing duopoly in the SRM market and expands the nation’s industrial capacity to meet growing defense demands.

The company has invested $75 million in the facility, which employs over 100 workers and is projected to produce more than 6,000 tactical SRMs annually by 2026, up from an initial capacity of 600 units in early 2024. The expansion comes at a time of heightened global demand for munitions, driven in part by geopolitical tensions in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

In January 2025, the U.S. Department of Defense awarded Anduril $14.3 million under the Defense Production Act to support upgrades and modernization of the McHenry site. The funding supports advanced automation, manufacturing enhancements, and the development of next-generation SRMs, including those used in the Navy’s Standard Missile-6 program.

Anduril’s manufacturing techniques include bladeless speed-mixing, single-piece flow production, and a proprietary aluminum-lithium fuel formulation, which the company states can increase missile range by up to 40 percent. Live-fire testing conducted in early 2025 demonstrated the performance of these motors, which are designed to be compatible with hypersonic systems.

Located on a 450-acre site with more than 92,000 square feet of production space, the facility incorporates robotics, modular systems, and other advanced industrial technologies. The project has also received support from the Mississippi Development Authority and local economic partners.

Pentagon officials have praised Anduril’s entry into the SRM market, viewing the company as a key player in rebuilding a resilient and scalable defense industrial base. By combining software and hardware integration, Anduril is positioning itself as a faster and potentially more cost-effective alternative to legacy suppliers.

As Anduril ramps up operations, it continues to recruit engineers, technicians, and production staff. Its presence in Mississippi signals a shift toward a more diversified and modernized supply chain for critical missile components, one that is increasingly vital to national defense readiness.
