A camping trip turned violent over the weekend when a father and his daughter were attacked at Low Gap Campground in White County, Georgia. Authorities have arrested four individuals in connection with the assault that left the 58-year-old father hospitalized in intensive care and his daughter injured.

According to the White County Sheriff’s Office, the attack happened on Saturday while Bruce Waldon and his 20-year-old daughter were spending time at the family-friendly site. Waldon, who sustained a serious injury stretching from his ear to the back of his neck, is currently being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) for a brain bleed. His daughter, whose name was not released, reportedly suffered bruises during the incident.

Brittanee Hollingsworth, Waldon’s other daughter, spoke out about the attack. “This is just an act of evil and just senselessness,” she told local media, adding that her father has been having nightmares and frequently wakes up screaming out of fear that the attackers may return.

The family said Waldon had been enjoying a quiet afternoon at the campground, snacking and preparing his fishing gear, when the group allegedly came up from behind and assaulted him with a beer bottle. “My dad was eating peanut brittle and fixing his fishing pole, and my sister was eating boiled peanuts,” Hollingsworth explained. “And my dad was attacked with a beer bottle on the side of the head, and cut him from his ear to the back of his neck, and was passed out on the ground.”

Investigators say the daughter acted in self-defense during the struggle and managed to stab one of the alleged attackers. Authorities later arrested Krista Wilson, 44; Joshua Wilson, 42; Joshua Miller, 32; and Charles Miller, 39. All four have been charged with aggravated assault and battery.

The White County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. Although officials have not yet commented on whether alcohol played a role, the victim’s family believes that its presence may have contributed to the violence.

“If it was, it shouldn’t be allowed in a family-friendly area to prevent incidents like this,” Hollingsworth said. “I don’t understand why you would do this to a man that was with his daughter for a camping trip. My dad would give the shirt off his back.”

Hollingsworth also expressed concern that more people may have been involved in the attack. So far, the sheriff’s office has not confirmed whether additional suspects are being sought, though they have indicated that the case remains open.

The attack has raised questions about safety at public campgrounds, especially those frequented by families seeking peaceful outdoor experiences. Waldon’s loved ones are now calling for accountability and stronger measures to prevent such acts of violence in the future.

The White County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with more information about the case to contact investigators as they gather evidence.
