A devastating crash in Breckinridge County, Kentucky, has left a young mother grieving the loss of her husband and 1-year-old daughter just days after their wedding. The collision occurred on July 26 along Kentucky Route 261 when a pickup truck crossed the center line and struck their vehicle head-on, resulting in a deadly fire.

According to the Kentucky State Police (KSP), a Ford F-150 driven by 48-year-old Joseph Maynard of Owensboro veered into oncoming traffic for reasons that remain under investigation. The truck collided with a Chevrolet Silverado carrying Hunter Lyons, 22, his wife Macey, and their infant daughter Oakleigh. The impact caused both vehicles to erupt in flames. Lyons and his daughter were pronounced dead at the scene, as was Maynard, according to the Breckinridge County Coroner’s Office.

Macey Lyons, who survived the crash, was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital’s burn unit with serious injuries. Her mother, Leigh Ann Payne-Weisser, shared the tragic news on social media, confirming the deaths and asking for prayers. “Hunter and Oakleigh are now with our Lord and Savior,” she wrote. “Please keep Macey and our families lifted in prayer.”

The crash came just seven days after Hunter and Macey were married on July 19, as noted on their online wedding registry. Friends and family described the couple as deeply connected, with Hunter remembered as a devoted father and church member. An obituary noted his involvement with Constantine Missionary Baptist Church, where he frequently sang and played guitar during services. He also enjoyed outdoor activities, including hunting, horseback riding, and operating farm equipment.

Oakleigh, their 1-year-old daughter, was remembered for her bright smile and spirited personality. “She had a smile like a ray of sunshine,” the family shared.

In the wake of the tragedy, multiple fundraising efforts have been launched to support Macey during recovery and with financial needs stemming from the loss. The KSP continues to investigate the cause of the collision. No further information has been released regarding what led to the F-150’s unexpected swerve into the opposing lane.

The crash has left a small community mourning the loss of a young family, just as their lives together had begun.
