Cincinnati mayoral candidate Cory Bowman is speaking out following a violent mob assault that left two individuals injured in the city’s downtown area. The incident, which took place outside the nightclub LoVe, has ignited public outcry over rising crime and the safety of residents in urban neighborhoods.

The attack occurred late Friday night and was captured on video, showing a group of individuals viciously beating two people, including a woman who was rendered unconscious. Local business owners have since described the incident as a hate crime, and there is growing concern over the deterioration of law and order in Cincinnati’s central entertainment district.

“This kind of violence is unacceptable, no matter who is involved,” Bowman said in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), adding that citizens have a right to feel safe in their own communities. Bowman, who is running on a law-and-order platform, has pledged to restore safety and accountability throughout the city, particularly in areas plagued by repeated disturbances.

Bowman’s campaign has drawn attention beyond city limits, in part due to the backing of his half-brother, U.S. Senator JD Vance (Republican–Ohio). While Cincinnati traditionally leans Democrat, Bowman’s candidacy offers a sharp contrast in approach, particularly on crime prevention, business development, and civic responsibility. He has emphasized the need for stronger police-community relations, clearer curfews, and increased accountability for repeat offenders.

Footage of the assault quickly went viral, prompting widespread criticism and calls for swift action. Law enforcement authorities have confirmed an active investigation is underway, but no arrests had been made at the time of reporting. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic and frightening, with some nightclub patrons fleeing as the situation escalated.

The Cincinnati Police Department (CPD) has increased patrols in the downtown corridor in response to the attack. CPD has also encouraged anyone with information to come forward, stressing the importance of community cooperation in solving the case.

Bowman has called for justice for the victims and urged city leadership to prioritize public safety as a nonpartisan issue. “Violence does not build communities,” he said. “It destroys them.”

The mayoral election is slated for November, and public safety is likely to remain a central topic as voters weigh leadership for the city’s future.
