Trump Pledges U.S. Aid Centers in Gaza Amid Ongoing Hunger Crisis

President Donald Trump has stated that the United States will establish food distribution centers in Gaza, citing what he described as “real starvation” in the region. His remarks come as humanitarian concerns grow due to the ongoing conflict and restrictions in the area. Trump announced during a visit to the United Kingdom, where he also referenced “alternative” plans should Hamas fail to release remaining Israeli hostages.

According to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry, at least 14 people have reportedly died from malnutrition in the last 24 hours. These reports follow Israel’s recent decision to pause its military operations in specific areas of Gaza for 10 hours each day, with the stated aim of enabling increased delivery of humanitarian aid.

In addition to these pauses, Israel has permitted international partners to conduct aid drops by air. However, BBC correspondent Jeremy Bowen, reporting from a Jordanian aircraft involved in the mission, noted that the limited volume of supplies being delivered is unlikely to significantly improve the dire conditions on the ground.

Complicating matters further, access for independent media remains heavily restricted. Israel continues to block the entry of international journalists into Gaza, raising concerns about transparency and the ability to independently verify the humanitarian situation.

Meanwhile, two prominent Israeli human rights organizations have leveled accusations of genocide against the Israeli government for its actions in Gaza. These claims, which Israel has consistently and firmly denied, add to the growing international scrutiny over the military campaign and its impact on civilians.

Trump’s comments signal a potential shift in U.S. involvement in the humanitarian response, though specific details regarding the food center initiative have not yet been released. His mention of “alternative” actions if hostages are not freed suggests that diplomatic or strategic pressure could follow, but no official policy statement has been issued.

As the conflict and humanitarian crisis continue, international focus remains on efforts to ensure the safe delivery of aid while seeking the release of hostages and a path toward de-escalation.
