Man Found Dead After Holding Woman Captive in Maple Heights Home

A man is dead following a disturbing domestic incident in Maple Heights, Ohio, where police say he tied up and assaulted his live-in girlfriend before taking his own life. The woman was rescued Saturday morning and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities responded just before 9 a.m. to reports of a woman being held against her will near the area of Maple Heights Boulevard and Knoll Avenue. According to Maple Heights Police Department, the victim told officers that she had been restrained and physically assaulted overnight by her boyfriend inside a home on Hollywood Avenue. She claimed he was armed with a handgun throughout the ordeal.

Emergency responders with the Maple Heights Fire Department transported the woman to Cleveland Clinic Marymount Hospital. Her current condition has not been released, and police have withheld further details regarding the extent of her injuries.

Ongoing Investigation

After learning the suspect may still be inside the residence, officers quickly secured the area and attempted to establish communication. Several efforts to contact the man went unanswered. As a precaution, police called in specialized teams, including the Southeast Area Law Enforcement (SEALE) Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Crisis Intervention Teams, to assist in safely managing the situation.

Despite multiple attempts to reach the man, there was no response from inside the home. Eventually, SWAT officers entered the property. Inside an upstairs bedroom, they discovered the suspect dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.

The man’s identity has not yet been released, and notification of next of kin is pending.

Investigators have not provided further details on the events that led up to the assault, but the case is being treated as a domestic violence incident that ended in suicide. Authorities are still piecing together the timeline of what happened inside the home between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Police say the woman’s account of being tied to a pole in the basement and assaulted while her boyfriend was armed is being investigated thoroughly, and forensic teams have been processing the scene.

Maple Heights Police are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
