Cardi B Sued After Throwing Mic at Fan During Vegas Show

Rapper Cardi B is now facing a civil lawsuit for alleged assault, battery, and negligence after a heated on-stage incident during her 2023 performance at Drai’s Beachclub in Las Vegas. The complaint stems from a moment when the artist, whose legal name is Belcalis Almanzar, hurled a microphone at an audience member following a splash of water thrown in her direction.

The lawsuit, filed earlier this week under the pseudonym Jane Doe, paints a picture of an environment shaped by the performer herself. According to court documents reviewed by Entertainment Weekly, Cardi B had encouraged fans to splash water on her during her performance in what was described as extremely high temperatures.

“During the performance, Cardi B appeared onstage under visibly high-temperature conditions and, while holding a microphone, verbally requested that the audience splash water on her,” the complaint states. “Cardi B made repeated gestures and statements encouraging concertgoers to throw water, implicitly authorizing and inviting light splashing from drinks.”

Jane Doe, who followed the performer’s apparent cue, claims she tossed a small amount of her drink toward the stage. The rapper, visibly startled, allegedly responded by throwing her microphone directly at the plaintiff.

Videos from that night, captured by concertgoers, support parts of the plaintiff’s account. They show Cardi B flinging her microphone into the crowd following the splash. Bystanders captured angles where the mic appears to hit someone, prompting immediate intervention from venue security. Despite the scuffle, the Grammy Award-winning artist continued her set shortly after.

The lawsuit claims the incident led to “physical pain, emotional distress, reputational damage, embarrassment, and harassment from both media and members of the public.” Jane Doe also stated her emotional struggles worsened after the microphone was later auctioned off for nearly $100,000, adding to the public spectacle.

“What has been written off as a joke by many people is actually a traumatic experience that has significantly impacted my well-being and quality of life,” Jane Doe said in her statement to Entertainment Weekly. “I am seeking justice in the hopes of holding Cardi B accountable for her misdeeds, as no celebrity is above the law.”

Cardi B’s legal team strongly resisted the claims. Her attorney, Drew Findling, dismissed the case as financially motivated, pointing out that local authorities had already declined to press charges after investigating the matter.

“The filing of a civil case against Ms. Almanzar regarding the two-year-old microphone incident is a transparent and pitiful attempted financial shakedown,” Findling said in a statement. “The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County District Attorney’s Office closed this matter for insufficient evidence long ago, but apparently the opportunity to try to make money off of a celebrity was too much for some willing law firm to pass up.”
