Caitlin Clark continues to make history not on the court this time, but in the sports memorabilia world. A rare 2024 Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) rookie card bearing her signature has sold for a record-breaking $660,000, cementing her status as a once-in-a-generation athlete whose impact extends far beyond basketball.

The card, a one-of-one Rookie Royalty WNBA Flawless Platinum Logowoman edition, was auctioned by Fanatics Collect, a prominent trading card and memorabilia company. The extended bidding began at $336,000 but rapidly escalated to nearly double that figure, reflecting the high demand and value placed on Clark’s growing legacy. The card features Clark mid-dribble with a bloodied shin, her autograph in bold blue ink, a patch from her Indiana Fever game-worn jersey, and the handwritten note “769 pts and counting,” a tribute to her rookie scoring milestone.

At just 23, Clark has captivated American sports fans with her record-breaking performances and on-court leadership. She entered the WNBA as the number one overall pick in the 2024 draft after a standout collegiate career with the Iowa Hawkeyes, where she led her team to back-to-back National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championships and broke the all-time NCAA Division I scoring record for both men and women.

Clark’s influence off the court is equally remarkable. Thursday’s card sale shattered her previous record for the most expensive women’s sports card, which stood at $366,000. This recent sale is one of 14 Clark cards that have fetched large sums at public auction, far exceeding her estimated $80,000 annual salary with the Indiana Fever.

Although Clark is currently sidelined with a groin injury sustained on July 15, her popularity has not waned. There is no official timeline for her return, but the Fever and fans alike continue to rally behind her. Since joining the league, she has already set multiple Women’s National Basketball Association records, including the most assists in a single game and over a season.

This unprecedented rookie card sale is yet another sign that Caitlin Clark is not just a basketball player; she is a cultural force driving women’s sports into new, long-overdue territory.
