A newborn baby has tragically died after being found unresponsive at a home in Richmond, Indiana. The child, just two weeks old, was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.

Eemergency responders were called to a residence on Randolph Street following a 911 report of an unresponsive infant. Officers from the Richmond Police Department (RPD) and paramedics responded quickly to the scene. The baby was transported to Reid Health with a police escort in an effort to provide the fastest possible care.

Despite the efforts of first responders and hospital staff, the baby passed away at Reid Health. Richmond Police confirmed the death later that day.

“There are no words that can ease the pain of losing a child,” said Richmond Police Chief Kyle Weatherly in a public statement. “Our hearts are with this family as they navigate this profound loss.” Weatherly also expressed gratitude to the other agencies involved, praising their cooperation in performing their duties and offering support to the grieving family.

Tragic Circumstances

The Wayne County Coroner’s Office, which also responded to the scene, described the event as a “heartbreaking incident” in its own statement on social media.

“Losing a child is something no family should ever have to face,” said Wayne County Coroner R. Brent Meadows. “In those moments, we do everything we can to offer compassion and support.”

The coroner’s office has not yet released the official cause of death. It remains unclear whether foul play is suspected or if any investigation is ongoing. No further details about the home’s condition or the parents’ identity were provided by authorities.

Officials have not confirmed whether any criminal investigation is underway, and no arrests or charges have been announced. However, as is standard procedure in such cases, both the police and the coroner’s office are working in coordination to ensure a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.

The Richmond Police Department, Wayne County Coroner’s Office, and emergency medical teams all played a role in responding to the situation.

Chief Weatherly’s message serves as a sobering call for empathy: “This is a tragedy no parent should have to face,” he said, highlighting the emotional toll such cases take on families and emergency responders alike.

No additional information has been released at the time of this report. The situation remains sensitive, and authorities are urging the public to respect the family’s privacy as they cope with an unimaginable loss.
